Massimo Listri. Fotografie. Regards français: Paris

9 - 17 November 2023

Moretti Fine Art is delighted to present their forthcoming exhibition, Regards français, which will be shown at their Parisian gallery from the 8th of November until the 18th of November. This monographic show will feature a collection of large format photographic works by Massimo Listri that depict the interiors of French architectural landmarks which epitomize both architectural elegance and historical importance.

Massimo Listri's works present a narrative of atemporal
spaces. During his 30-year career, Listri has transported his viewers
from the solemn chambers of the Vatican to the regal halls of German and Italian palazzos. His profound appreciation for architecture and design finds eloquent expression in his photographs, which serve as both artistic and historical documentation.

This exhibition of 13 photographs finds a natural home in Paris. The works not only take us through the interiors of landmark French monuments, such as Versailles, the chateau de Chantilly and Compiègne, but allows a unique glimpse into the interiors of Parisian institutions such as the Opéra Garnier and the Sainte Geneviève library, which are a stone’s throw away from the Parisian space where the works will be displayed.

Born in 1953, Massimo Listri quickly demonstrated a keen eye for the aesthetic potential of interior spaces; by the age of 17 he was already being published in esteemed art and architecture publications. In 1981 Listri established the internationally acclaimed magazine FMR, which for over two decades became the illustrious platform for his photographic essays. His aesthetic journey has taken him through an array of palaces, villas, and exquisitely designed interiors.

His work has been published in over 50 volumes, from Palaces of Rome to New Asian Interiors, as well as shown in a plethora of solo exhibitions on a global scale and in esteemed cultural institutions, such as El Museo de Arte Moderno in Buenos Aires, and the Palazzo Pitti in Florence, a testament to both his artistic achievements and his international reputation.

Informed by his passion for antique collecting and interior decoration, as well as by his interest in the history of art, Listri's photographic practice emerges as a deeply contemplative process. He employs large-format negatives, natural light, and extended exposure times to make transcendental and meditative images. His oeuvre

is an eloquent declaration of his love for both the past and the monumental edifices that stand as testaments to human history.

Moretti Fine Art’s exhibition Regards français is a journey through history which celebrates the beautiful symphony between light, space, and French history that resonates through the halls and chambers of our architectural heritage. The exhibition is a culmination of Listri's lifelong devotion to architectural photography and an excellent illustration of his unique and original artistic vision.
